Dellow Sales

These are a selection of cars which owners have asked to be put on the site. There are occasionally others for sale, please contact me if you want to buy a Dellow.

If you want anything legal posted on this page, please  e-mail or post me the details, I will enter the relevant advertisement.

I frequently get asked to post wanted ads on this page, especially for the engine tuning parts, I don't want to do this because I genuinely don't have the time to keep updating the site. So I will only continue with cars and parts for sale. I will add however that Dellow owners are always seeking original parts supplied by Aquaplane, LRG, Willment, Elva, Ballamy, Buckler, Derrington, Marshall, Shorrock and others. If you have any of these desirable bits then let me know and I will advertise them for you.

If you are looking for a Dellow then please don't hesitate to contact me, and I'll try to help with contacts etc.

Please note however that I do not operate a find-a-car service and cannot undertake to alert you when a car comes onto the market since there are usually more people looking than there are cars for sale.

From time to time, various cars come on the market purporting to be Dellows when in fact they are Ford specials, albeit in some cases quite good specials sometimes sporting period Dellow bits. if you are contemplating the purchase of a Dellow or car advertised as a Dellow then you are invited to contact us for free advice on the provenance of your prospective purchase. We have factory records of all the genuine Dellows made.

A nice Mk1 Dellow.

This car is chassis number 176, a 1951 car, and is still very close to the original specification with the E93A engine and gearbox.

The Dellow is pretty well unmodified, but quite a lot of work has been done. Recent work has included :

Re-trimming the seats and a tonneau cover made.

Reinstallation of the outside handbrake.

Some non-standard doors have been taken out but the new panels, which make the drive a better one, have not been re-painted.

Overhaul of the twin SUs by Burlens

Radiator re-coring

Refurbished Dynamo

The car is MOT'd till August.

Owner Jennifer Compton said "I am really sad to be selling the Dellow - I've had it for more than 21 years, but would love to think someone was driving and enjoying it as I have."

The Tony Marsh Dellow

Tony Marsh who passed away in 2009 was a competitive Grand Prix driver and an astounding British Hill Climb Champion, having won the title in two hat tricks in 1955,1956, 1957 and 1965, 1966, 1967. He was also a skilful trials driver and won many awards driving this very car.

Sadly, Tony’s family have decided to find a new home for his Dellow.

LWP 757 is a Mk2 Dellow and was built as a special lightweight version of the standard design for 1953. It was delivered originally to Tony Marsh on 28th July 1953 and became his trials car for a number of years before he disposed of it.

Tony was re-united with the car in the 1980s and carried out a painstaking restoration back to its original specification in which it remains to this day.

The car is in exceptional condition with a patina which echoes its past.

LWP 757 is a car with a good provenance and gave Tony many awards. It was frequently photographed and appeared in the sporting magazines of the day. The car is complete with its original registration number.

Specification:

Body: Aluminium panelling by Lionel Evans of Radpanels over a tubular steel frame in good condition. Two tone green. Light green to body and dark green front and rear wings.

Chassis: Standard Dellow Mk2 ‘A’ frame in 3.25 inch diameter Chrome Moly tubing ( the famous ex WD, World War 2 “rocket” tubes )

Suspension: front, transverse semi elliptic leaf spring with telescopic hydraulic damping. Rear coil springs with telescopic hydraulic damping.

Engine: Ford 100E side valve engine with Marshall J75 supercharger. Note, the original engine would have been a Ford E93A side valve but by June 1954 Dellow Motors were fitting the later 100E to the Mk2 which was stronger than the old E93A. (note. An E93A engine of the original type is included as a spare. Condition of this spare is unknown but it has been carefully stored and turns freely by hand). A stainless steel exhaust system is fitted.

Gearbox: Ford E93A type 3 speed, ratios unknown.

Rear Axle: Ford E93A type ratio unknown.

Wheels & Tyres: front 5.00x16 on 3” rims, rear 6.00x16 on 4” rims, with good tread depth. Two spares 6.00 x 16” Michelin competition tyres on 4” rims.

Weather equipment: Tonneau cover, and ‘as new’ hood and side screens.

Windscreen: there is a crack in the laminated screen well out of the driver’s vision to the left of the screen. The chrome on the screen frame and stanchions is very good. Dual electric wipers are fitted.

Cockpit: the dashboard and trimming are to the Dellow standard layout with a Dellow pattern rev counter. The Speedometer has been replaced by A Ford instrument and the original Dellow instrument is presumed faulty but included in the sale. The original seats are showing signs of wear but are quite useable.

Spares: a number of wheels and tyres, spare engine as noted above and other miscellaneous items.

BACK ON THE FORECOURT!  [POSTED JULY 2009]

JNP 400 which was withdrawn from sale several months ago has been restored with a replacement Consul engine, has passed the MOT test and is on the road again. A small amount of work is needed to bring this car up to scratch. JNP400 was owned by Ron Lowe and is the Autosport featured John Bolster test car, it became the prototype for the 4 seater Mk3 and soon after was fitted with its 1508cc Ford Consul engine becoming as it is now, the sole Mk4 four seater.

The photos shown below were taken some while ago so inspection should be considered but in any case contact the owner, Dave Kerswell on 07966 438968.

SOLD 20th July! - [POSTED 15 JULY 2009]

Dellow MkI 1951

Owner states: The car has been fitted with a 100E engine believed reconditioned and not run. It is partially (I would say about 90%) restored.
It requires completion of new floor and transmission tunnel (some original parts available), exhaust system, shock absorbers, radiator hoses, dashboard, and completion of wiring.  Many new parts include radiator, headlamps, wiper motor, speedo, etc.
Used spares include a spare engine, spare gearbox, 2 sets of seats, several wheels (some shot blasted), crown wheel and pinions, steering components, AQUAPLANE cyl head, engine parts and many other components.

I am a member of the "New Dellow register" and have been restoring this Dellow Mk.I over a number of years but as time and space are now becoming scarce I have decided that perhaps it would be a good idea to sell it to someone who will get it "on the road" again.
