I was delighted to find your website. During my idle and mispent youth I owned a Porsche 356A, MG-TD, Fiat 124A Coupe, VW Karmann Ghia Coupe, and many others. I currently drive a Mazda MX-5. I have never owned a Dellow. I first saw a picture of a Dellow in a book simply titled SPORTS CARS back about 1960. I have wanted one ever since! I have never seen a Dellow here in Texas. Hopefully, before I die, another trip to England will allow me the opportunity to at least see one, and perhaps I can talk the owner into letting me drive it. Best regards, Chris
I broke the diff. on the last but one hill on the Northern Trial on Saturday. Has anyone got a good spare rear axle they want to sell, low ratio, that I could get hold of to fit before the Lands End Trial on March 21st? All e-mails answered! Robin Barlow
My wife had a Dellow in the 60's reg KNP280 does anyone know who owns it and where it is.
I have many old pictures of vehicles supplied by us.Although quite young in 1952,I think I would remember or have been told of an association with Dellow.Could you please confirm the accuracy of this item. 01470 582464 evenings please if you wish to respond
have just found your site . I CAN OFFER A SMALL AMOUNT OF INFO. I BOUGHT A DELLOW AS A DISMANTLED CAR IN 1967. I SPENT 6 MONTHS REBUILDING IT , INCLUDING REWIRING ALL ELECTRICS. I THEN PAINTED IT BY HAND USING DULUX HOUSEHOLD GLOSS PAINT . BRIGHT YELLOW . THE WINGS WERE PAINTED USING SEVERAL CANS OF BLACK MATT AEROSOL PAINT. THE PAINT JOB IMPRESSED SEASONED SPRAYERS WHO FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE I PAINTED IT BY HAND. I NEXT HAD THE INTRIOR TRIMMED A HOOD MADE AND A COVER FOR THE REAR COMPARTMENT. I USED THE DELLOW FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS TRAVELLING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY IN ALL WEATHERS ,SUCH .FUN. HAD TO SELL CAR TO BUY A CARPET FOR MY LOUNGE .AT £170.00 WAS SAD TO SEE IT GO. HAVE ONLY ONE PHOTO. HAVE NO RECOLECTION OF REG NO. MY HOME WAS IN GREAT WAKERING NEAR SOUTHEND ESSEX AT TIME OF SALE. THE BUYER CAME FROM YORKSHIRE. I WONDER IF IT IS STILL ABOUT ?
I have a mk. V1 Dellow reg. no VLE399 , I would like to learn more about this car with a veiw to pass it on to other Dellow lovers, I can be contacted on 01964 529499 or home 01759 371785
Peter, It was really good to hear of your recollections of your father's Dellow. I too would be pleased to find HWP935, its been missing a long time but cars are turning up at around 2 per year so its only a matter of time. It is quite possible that HWP935 is the third " production dellow" although I might say "third equal" since the existence of previously unknown HWP934 was a surprise event this year. Nevertheless it was an important car, Does anyone know or have any clue to the whereabouts of HWP934 and HWP935, David
Rebecca, not much to go on I am afraid, I can't find any reference to your uncle. As far as I can determine, only 2 cars were registered with Leicestershire Council, but cars do move around in their second hand lives. Did your Uncle compete at all? any awards? A number or part of number would be the most useful, maybe from an old photograph. sorry, David
My father W. (Bill) F. Mead owned Dellow Mk1 HWP 935. It was the third Dellow made and the log book contained the words "made entirely from second hand parts" so avoiding Car Purchase Tax. Before the war (WW!!) Bill Mead was a well known motorcycle trials rider and even better sidecar exponent. He was part of the News of The World Gold Cup winning team in 1936 and 1937. After tyhe war he turned to cars, and was one of the Allard trials works drivers before turning to the Dellow. HWP 935 was bright orange, had the usual Ford 10 engine, 8 head double valve springs (my knuckles still bear the scars from engine rebuilds, done on the kitchen table, it was cold in the garage. Aspiration was through a single Su and Wade supercharger. When I was 17 I was allowed to use the cxar as my day to day transport, and i used to put twin SU's on and put the blower back on for my father to compete with. I was his passenger when I could get away from school. His other passengers were Ian Betteridge, my cousin, who later also bought a Dellow, resprayed it Orange ( and at the same time covered my grandfather's black Triumph Mayflower and Scottie Dog with a fine orange mist.) My other cousin Trevor Tarr and mainly a local small garage owner / mechanic Lou Wells, from Feltham, Middlesex. I have a small collection of Photographs from that period. In those days there seemed no age limit on passengers, and I can be seen in school cap in the bouncer position. I would love to find HWP 935 again, and I would also be interested in the purchase of her or a similar Dellow. I did not follow my father into trials straight away as I was a very keen sailor, and from 16 until age 60 raced first dinghies then later cruiser / racers. However five years ago aged 65 I purchased a 1952 Morgan +4 four seater and have tried my hand at trials in Morgan PCT and the M C C Classic events. I still have that hanker after a Dellow, especially HWP 935 if she can be found. Peter Mead
I recently came in contact with Dellows through a friend and then my father told me that my uncle Brian Woolley used to own one, its not something I remember so must have been about 50 years ago. Brian lived in Shepshed, Leicestershire at the time. Any idea what car he may have owned?
Hi everyone, i am currently restoring a 1955 mk 11 Dellow and need a correct steering box drop arm. I would appreciate if anybody can assist with this unusual item request. Hoping that someone can help , thankyou Phone 01329310987
Spring weekend. Hi all, I am starting to sort out a venue for a meeting and AGM on 10/11 May 2008.This will be combined with the Wiscombe Park Hillclimb. The sooner I can get an idea of numbers wishing to attend, the better it will be for accommodation etc. Full details will follow but if you could contact me ASAP I would appreciate it. Paul Catley.
Welcome to the asylum, Mike. We look forward to seeing you on the Exeter? Dave
I have recently acquired the ex Robert Stones MK 1 Dellow DBV 544 which I intend to use in MCC events. Will be applying for Dellow membership in the near future. 31/10/07
David, We have briefly corresponded in the past but I have now foolishly in my old age paid out my life savings on buying JWP888 from Richard Shirley, hence have just put my application for membership in the post. I would be grateful for any information you gan give me regarding this car in addition to the phots that Richard has put in the post. I previously owned MYP916 in the 1960's so I an not unfamiliar with the cars and I hope to do the odd MCC trial next year, unfortunately a long way from where I now live in Scotland! All the best for now, Robin Barlow.

We had a wonderful trip in the Compton Dellow LYT 464 to the Goodwood Revival meeting. The car attracted much admiration and nice comments from people wherever we stopped along the way and there were quite a few stops! For us, this represented a 400 mile round trip and the car performed faultlessly never missing a beat on the whole journey. I was, at the outset, seriously concerned about the running temperature, not having too much experience of the ways of this car. It has an E93A engine, without a water pump and the normal running temperature seems to be (with anti-freeze) between 96 and 100 degrees Centigrade(if the gauge is to be believed). I do believe it because on a previous occasion when stuck in traffic with the electric fan not working, it boiled at 105. The car has a new radiator core so should be no problems there. Despite these high temperatures, the car never boiled and the coolant level remained constant. I just wondered if others running this set up could let me know the running temperatures of their cars. The increase in caster angle of just 2 degrees has made a world of difference to the steering and straightline stability although it has done nothing for the nastly little habit of roll oversteer. I imagine that the MK11 is better in this respect having a better located rear axle. However, the really nice thing about LYT464 is that it is absolutely original in every respect which must make it quite rare. My wife and I are indebted to Jennifer and John Compton for the loan of their car which all added to a really memorable weekend.
Hi Dellow Owners, Thanks very much to Dave Haley, you were able to trace Mark Haywards Mk2 Dellow back to my ownership around 1960-1 this was EVG 28 and at the time I was probably the 2nd or 3rd owner and about 19 years old. I remember paying £45 for the car advertised in the Exchange & Mart and even in those days quite a rare car, it came from the north west London area and me and my Dad drove from Kingston to collect it; in November it was quite an epic drive for me at 8.30 pm on a wet night, but very appropriate for the type of car! It was my pride and joy and very much the envy of my friends who used to meet up at The Angel and The Swan at Thames Ditton- John Cooper and his Father Charles had 'rides' in the car. Try as I did I could never acheive a swerve with the 'fiddle brake' I wonder if it was ever connected? The great hole in the bonnett was not there in my ownership but the cockpit grab handle was remembered by my Mother who is now 90 years old, she also remembers attempting to clip the tonoueux cover with the 'lift the dot' buttons in the pouring rain to no effect whatsoever. Best wishes and let me know if it comes up for sale David Green.
Thanks to those who came to the ,Wolseley Hornet Special/Dellow gathering on the 19th August. Nick Woollett organised a Treasure Hunt over the Ashdown Forest followed by tea here at Littlemead. There was a collection for the local Hospice and today we have sent off a cheque for £70. Many thanks, Ann & Geoff May
Further to the previous message I seem to remember the number _ _ _ 28
Hi, Just noticed your register after looking for a Morgan ! When I was 18 or 19 I bought a Mk 1 Dellow from a private owner in the Harrow area, this would have been around 1961-2. I cannot at present remember the registration number but if the present owner has the original log book my details: D>M>Green 15 Woodcote Close Kingston-uon-Thames and I sold the car to a friend also in the log book Nicholas Sutton Norbiton Court Kingston. It was red and had the 'jigger' brake on the off side and was in superbe condition. Is there a complete list of reg numbers, if so it may jog my memory. I will keep in touch. Best wishes to all Dellow fans. Dave.
Jan, You are nearly correct about ONX, it was originally sold through a Nuneaton dealer. NX is a Warwickshire number. It was exported to Denmark by an RAF officer, the circumstances of this transfer are not recorded by the Register. Subsequently it spent some time in the Netherlands before going to Germany. We have two recorded owners in Germany, the current one is in Dortmund. I feel there is more to the story and I am trawling through my records to find somethiing as well as some more photos. I am a little puzzled by your Father's ownership since I had assumed the car was exported when new or just after and had then remained over the channel. regards, Dave Haley
Hi there,I have been searching on your site for a car my Dad used to own,and think it may be in Germany. the reg was ONX 486.Would love to get any details on this,as when it was brand new,he thinks it was delivered to Lapland the previous owners were in Warwickshire. Kind regards Jan
Message for David Haley David, I've sent you an email detailing the mod to change the caster angle.
Found the site really interesting.Glad to see JWP 888 still about. My brother bought this car off Ken Roberts in the late sixties early seventies, and learned to drive in it.Ken,a local motorcycle dealer, used it to tow a trailer to deliver and collect bikes for his shop. I have happy memories as a child being ferried about by my father and brother in this car.And the occasional trip up the local mountain for a bit of fun ;-)
John, very interesting, how did you do it? Dave Haley
Following on from my last message, I have now increased the caster angle on the Dellow by 2 degrees and the difference in the steering is astonishing. Agreed, the steering is a bit heavier but self centring and straightline stability is vastly improved and this makes the car much nicer to drive. A cheap, simple and straightforward modification well worth doing.
I met Mark Hayward and Geoff Cutting in the late 60s when I owned a MK1 (LEL 35). Sadly, I only met Geoff the once as soon after our meeting he was killed in his Dellow when a wheel came off. I introduced Mark to MCC trials and he competed successfully in a blown MK11. To LEL 35, I fitted a 100E and for a time, a Shorrock C75B blower. The increase in torque was amazing. The car was sold to its original owner John Pellowe and I have seen it out on MCC events in past years. I subsequently bought a MK!! (UEV 3) from Simon Durling. This was fitted with Riley 1.5 rear axle and BMC 1500cc engine. I did a few trials in it and later sold it to Geoff Jackson who totally rebuilt it with Ford bits including 1500 cc engine and 105E axle. Geoff went on to build Clive Booth's replica and rebuild a number of other Dellows to a very high standard. I have made a recent re-aquaintance with Dellow in the form of a MK1 (LYT 464) owned by neighbours John and Jennifer Compton. The current jobs that I am undertaking for them are to get rid of the non-standard doors and introduce a bit of caster angle to improve stability. The car is very original and includes E93A engine. I hope to borrow the car for this year's Goodwood Revival Meeting. John Bonnett
Hi, good to see LOC 827 on the Register website. I bought it some time between 1970 and 1975 for £250 in running condition with MOT, and ran it for a number of years as my only car until succumbing to 'I'll take it apart and tidy it up' syndrome. Luckily I sold the resulting pile of boxes to the right guy who, I understand, moved it on to it's present owner. Last I heard it's resident in the Sheen area? If so I'd welcome the chance of a brief reunion, as I'm just along the road in Twickenham these days. Regards, G.
Paul, what a coincidence, we were contacted by Rod Alexander about this car in January of this year. Rod had it in the 1960s when it was totally destroyed in a head on collision with a Ford Zephyr. What a pity! one of only 3 Dellows which we know were destroyed. Dave Haley
Hello! Anyone have any idea what happened / does it still exist, to Dellow (mk. 2 I think) that was owned by my late father Andrew Wilson-Gunn reg. no. NAF 844? I have pictures of it in the Exeter Trial 1953 and I have his tankard fom the event. Many thanks, Paul
We owned Dellow mark II in the late 1960s reg. THT 294 with which we had much fun, sold to someone at Quinton Birmingham 1973. We would love to know if this car is still around? We lived at sarisbury at the time and in west wales ever since. Graham and Sally Bailey (past members).
Hi, www.feye-hohmann.de is my Morris homepage and it is only just for fun. My other page www.british-classic.co.uk is to help friend of British Classic Car with it.. If you are searching information about Morris Minor in the Internet you have to select more than 1000 pages. With www.british-classic.eu it is much easier. Please have a look. It is absolutely free. Clubs and companies can write there information’s in the index-windows. But first they must sign in. It is to prevent spam. All the windows we provide are without any costs for all, who would like to support this case with their entry. The only premise to do this, is that the information must be important for friends of Classic Cars. There will only be limited advertising. Hello there, as an introduction my father worked at the Castle Motor company in Kidderminster, as a young man his workmates included Lionel Evans, Bertie Mathews and Pat Collins plus many more. I was always recognised as Ted's lad whenever I was seeking motoring help from his friends from those days. This included asking Lionel to reskin my first car, an MG PB in about 1969. Onto more Dellow related information; I recently purchased a sad looking trials car which is reputed to have come from Tony Marsh's parents home many years ago and generally resided around Chaddesley Corbett ever since. Externally apart from a cut down Ford pop radiator cowl there is nothing to suggest Dellow, I originally thought it might be a TMS but Tony used a space frame I believe. This car has two large diameter tubes in an A frame layout with coil spring rear suspension. The front axle may be Y type ford but with Austin 7 hubs and wheels. Hydraulic front brakes and rod rear on a ford axle and wheels. An external pop type handbrake and a large handle working all brakes. It is ford sidevalve powered, E93 I think. It has a neat tube frame skinned in aluminium. Is it possible this is a Dellow? how can I identify it? Thanks for your time Gerald L Ellis
Sirs looking through your guest book comments i came across the reg.no. BCW155 which brought back many memories in 1948-60 i worked for a textile company in bradford yorkshire called R kellett and sons the afore mentioned R KELLETT had two sons michael and john who where my age and graduated to the dellows from T100 triumphs michael had BCW155 and john had LBL *** as far as i can remember they were both used as road cars and where both new on the same day michael went on to race austin healey ac ace and various other sports cars successfully anybody interested can e-mail me and fill me in on BCW155 regards David Whitehead
LOL 992 MK11 It lives it breaths it finishes with a bronze medal on the 2007 Exeter Trial after getting the clutch master cylinder un seized and the fuel tank opened up and descaled Me and Peter Joy finished the trial with a bronze medal (it would of been gold except for my lack of experince on 2 re starts ) but we climbed EVERY hill. 350 miles 20 odd tests and the old gal made it where other more modern specials failed !!! I hope Mac would of been proud ! now someone has justed mailed me to say they owned the car in the mid fifties !! but now lives in New Zealand (what was the chances of that?)
I think this may have been GJB600. This appears on the Dellows in action page and is arguably the most successful Dellow in recent times.
my father owned a mk 1 dellow reg number JGB 500, in the mid 1950's. Is it still around, might it be for sale ?
hi, I`ve just discovered your lovely little Dellows and am keen to see one and maybe even buy one if there were a chance! Does anyone know of any Mark 1 or 11 available for sale? I also wonder if there are any Dellows in Kent. I live near Maidstone and would love to see one. any advice appreciated cheers Roy Wareham
Hello Dellowists, Recently I have acquired a late forties Ford Prefect, in terrible condition, with the idea of using the mechanicals to build a Dellow type of special or Dellow replica. I also have my eye on a 50's Anglia in rotten condition, again with the idea of getting it for the engine etc. But so far I have been unable to find a book or any drawings of a Dellow Mk1 or Mk2, chassis dimensions, and generally information on the mechanical set up. I live in Mildura, Victoria, Australia, so it is not possible to duck over to England to measure someones car( but I would like to). Could anyone point me in the direction of what I am after. Thanks in anticipation of a/some replies. Cheers Bernard Livingston
Diane, how intriguing, another unknown Dellow, I have had a couple of these quite recently. KNB300 is not on our list of known cars, but we have gaps in the list. Do you think you could e-mail me scans of the photos, I can then often tell from details of the car when it was built and then I can research the registration details in the relevant county records. This will often give us the chassis number and the original owner. Sounds like a lot of work but we take pleasure in it. Look forward to hearing from you, Dave Haley
i have four black and white photographs of a dellow at a rally car reg kmb 300 do you know how i can find out who owned this car as many of my clients believe it is two famous people driving the car i would be extremly grateful for any help you can give me. Kind Regards Diane Russo
Hi Everyone Happy New Year. The Register has been invted to take part in the MG Car Club Trial on 18th March in Ledbury Worcs. Entry forms and details on www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccmidlandcentre/index.html then click events for March. Paul
Congratulations on a really informative site. I am an Austin Healey owner in Australia (Melbourne) and have always been amazed and fascinated by the proliferation of small run specialist sporting cars in the UK during the thirties, forties and fifties. Of course the Healeys also started as a small private venture. The concept of a trials car - rather than a motor bike is really out there. I salute you - keep the cars running as they were designed. All the best from a fellow petrol head Andrew Nielsen
Adam, good to hear from you about LOL992. a "nice" car. the chassis number tells the story. series number 300. first Mk2 was series number 295 so yes it is a Mk2. 651 is June 1951 for date of manufacture. it actually left the Works in August 1951. sticking clutch is probably the metallic clutch lining which has rusted to the flywheel and cover and may need a big wellie to free it. For the tank I suggest you try Frost Auto Restoration Techniques http://www.frost.co.uk/ Their Marine Clean for cleaning tanks and tank sealant may be what you need. I haven't tried these particular products but other stuff I have bought from Frost have been top quality. The next thing you should do is join the Dellow Register and Andy our Membership Secretary will be breathing down your neck very soon!!! - Merry Christmas. David Haley, Secretary & generally helpful chap.
Hi some of you chaps may know the Dellow I am getting back up and running and hoping to compete in trials in the very near future. It is the Mac Hazlewood childrens car ! LOL992 chassis number 300651. I used to compete with Mac in this car before he died and was avery close friend. The last time the car ran was with me in 1999, and i got it running again last night !! currently the 2 issues I have is the clutch pedal will not depress and more worrying is the internals of the fuel tank has jelly like fuel remains and a coating of rust like crusty deposits . (any ideas on cleaning it out ?) I think the car is a mk2 ? and is a 1957 car ?? only we cannot find the log book athe moment ! hope you guys will be pleased to see this car competing again regards Adam Crowton
HiFrancis, I do not remenber the incident but I am sure you are right. I still drive this car like a lunatic but get a hell of a kick out of it. Still have both cars and have just started competing again -after wives, houses, children and business come in the way. If you are ever over here happy to give you another fright. Regards Mark
The other day I picked up a copy of 'Practical Classics'. I am not at all familiar of this magasine as I am based in France. While looking through the many interesting articles I came across the 'Clubs' page and the mention: Dellow Register and your web site. The name Dellow immediately brought back memories of my college days back in England. At that time I lived in the same housing estate as Mark Haywood (and his Dellows!) I believe he was the owner of two cars at time, one in BRG and a Red one. Im pretty sure that Mark is still a member of the register For a couple of years we both attended classes at Harrow Technical College, but on different courses.I remember one time Mark was reprimanded, by one of our lecturers from the Engineering Dept.,for speeding on the access road to the car park situated behind the building.Mark tryed to explane to this man that his car was old dating back to the 1950s and did'nt go that fast anyway.Somehow I don't think the old Engineer believed him especially as the engine was running with a big SU hissing away and a super-charger poking out the side of the bonnet! I remember having a ride in his car once on a un-official hill climb in the back streets of Harrow-on the Hill, great stuff! If you read this Mark, cheers.I hope you dont mind me bringing up these little anecdotes, but school days seem so far away now ,don't they? I found the web site very interesting and instructive, happy newyears to you all.
Hi, dont know what prompted me to look up Dellow on Google but I'm so glad I did. Looking at the two photos of the 12 cars on 'The Dellow Register' page I could believe that the 5th car from the left could be FJN 615 ( Mk II. BR Green, 1172 E93A ) which I owned during the early 60's. I amost lived in this much loved car which was used daily to work, college, country pubs most nights, accompanied by friends using cars such as Triumph Gloria, Austin Swallow, Riley Lynx, V8 Allard Coupe. Competition use included lots of club rallies, tarmac speed hillclimbs, autocross, but sadly no mud-plugging which the cars are really designed for. When I wasnt driving it I was working on it. Everything remained standard thru all the rebuilds except the front friction shocks which were replaced with telescopic hydraulic. Had I kept the car back then mods would have included close ratio gears, hydraulic brakes, and 12v electrics. I believe the car was first registered in Southend Essex. I bought it for £265 from Price Motors at Leigh-on-sea Essex. ( Doug Price and his wife used to race and hillclimb 2 immaculate Lotus' 6 & 7 ). I eventually sold my Dellow for £195 to the 'Chequered Flag' sports car dealers in New Cross, South London. Of all the cars I've owned over the years my Dellow remains the most fun, the most charming, versatile and charismatic, I could write a book about our life and times together. Long live FJN 615 wherever you are.................................................... If anyone has any news or history PLEASE let me know. You could make me SO HAPPY and bring a tear to my eye. Bye for now, Ken Holmes.
Hi, dont know what prompted me to look up Dellow on Google but I'm so glad I did.
Hello people, Here some news from Holland. The Dellow from Jan louwe is still riding very smoot, he stands now dry in the garage, the dellow is been polished with wax. so whe wait till next summer to ride again with the dellow. There is been an artikel about dellow in a dutch magazine called www.het-automobiel.nl. Now i am trying to get my father with the dellow in that magazine. Ive i am succeded you will hear from us. Sorry for the bad english, i am trying hard, haha. Gr. Johan en Jan Louwe The Netherlands
I used to own a Mk 1 Dellow in the mid 60s. I would like to know if it has survived but I cannot remember the full registration. I know that it was LOB but cannot remember the numbers.
Hi. Nice site. The first car I owned was "premark" Dellow entirely based on a 1936 Austin 7 chassis, engine and running gear including wire wheels. Registration BAC 503 purchased for £15 in 1959. I didn't realise it was a Dellow at the time, I just regarded it as a very nice "special" of which there were plenty about in the late 50's. I rebuilt and reupholstered her, upgraded the front brakes by fitting bowden cables (they were still hopeless), put in double valve springs (another mistake) removed the BRG paint and polished the aluminium body and painted the wheels yellow. With a new hood and an A30 grill she looked a treat and could reach 60 mph on the right road. The cotter pins in the lowered front axle often came loose, even allowing a king pin to escape a couple of times. The projecting starting handle was a trifle incongruous until it was knocked off in a minor traffic accident. I sold her to fund the purchase of my first MG. I don't suppose its still in circulation but I do have a painting of her and a few grainy photos if anyone is interested. Cheers.
I have just achieved one of my ambitions that is to own a Dellow. Although it is a replica it is very close to the original. The car 592 AHT used to be owned by Clive Booth and is photographed in the Dellows in action part of this site. I have entered the Exeter Trial and intend to use it in many more trials and PCT's especially Falcon MC events of which I am also a member.
Look forward to seeing Roger Platt on the hills.
I am in the process of purchasing a Dellow Mk1 belonging to Archie Onions, will be using it in many trials starting with the Exeter on then the Lands End hoppe meet fellow owners and have some fun.
I had Dellow Mk 2 reg nr OUY237 from 1957 to 1961. Does it still exist do you know? I had a wonderful time with it winning several trials events run by North Midlands MC and Sheffield and Hallamshire MC.
Had no idea these cars existed. Very good website. Am keen to learn more about the cars.
Mike Finer, Canadian Dellow owner, contacted us some months ago and we would dearly like to make contact again. If you read this or if anyone who knows him reads it then please contact us. Dave
I have come accross your web-site, and would like to ask any members if they would like some old coloured photographs and approx 20off color negatives of the car of Dellow which I owned for a short while in 1980. now having a clear out. "Free to a good home" just pay P&P My car at the time was a MK1 registered 31st December 1947. Reg No: EGJ 280. chassis/frame No:Y195459. Engine No:RC1572179p. exterior colour at that time was painted White and Red wheels. I also have a letter dated 9th September 1980 from John Temple re the above car, I have also come accross sales receipt when I sold to a Mr David A.C Royle "vintage motor car restoration" in Darlington. After being at Shelsley on Sunday 4th June (LXT 879) and visiting the site of the Dellow factory with the film crew, could anyone let me now when and where the programme will be "on air". I have a feeling it will be a SKY (midlands) channel in July? but I don't remember the name of the programme. Many thanks Martyn Sansom
I'm looking for LOF204. My Mum and Dad (Sandy and Esme) owned it, sold it and bought it back. They started to restore it while I was still at school but didn't finish it. They sold it as a chassis and all the bits. I would love to know where it is now and if it has been fully restored. Sarah Chater (nee Curr)
This is one of the best designed sites for specialty low production cars I've found to date. I don't have a Dellow, just like the concept and collect other sports car 'specials' Good job--thanks.
During the 1950s I was a frequent visitor to West Cornwall, the home of my parents who had moved to Somerset for professional reasons. Before WWll my father had been a trials rider with the then Lelant Motor Club. Various visits were made to Bluehills and Trengwainton and amongst other fine cars I particularly remeber a red Dellow driven by Dennis Scobey who was well acquainted with my parents in the 1930s. The reg, no. of this Dellow was (I think) OAF932 it would be great to know if this car is still around and if it is still in use. From time to time this Dellow would be seen on the open road in and around Penzance where Dennis Scobey had his business.
Very interesting site. Only recently discovered classic trials and Dellow Cars. I Want one!!!!! regards to all involved in site. J.s Brazier.
Hello Jim Harvey!
for Mickey Willshire-Keen Mickey, I have some more info on EDE which you should find interesting, could you confirm your e-mail address please. regards, Dave Haley
Mike, we are extremely pleased you contacted us, this is a "lost" Dellow for which we have some history prior to you purchasing it. Our Registrar and Historian, Jim Harvey will be contacting you in the next few days. regards, Dave Haley
I have what I believe is a 1950 Dellow Mark1 engine # C5320077 Chassis # 132850 registration # LXC 142 The ID plate does not have a car # stamped into it. I have owned this car since 1963 and am currently living in Ontario Canada. As there is no car # does anyone have any info on this car? Thanks. Mike
Mickey, this was almost certainly EDE384 and is a survivor. I have an owners name against this car but he is not a member of the register. It was a successful pre-production car campaigned by R.W.Merrick. Does anyone know any more? Dave Haley
Hello I used to own what I was led to believe was a Mk1 Dellow. I purchased it from a guitar maker in the Twickenham area in the 70's. I think that the reg no was 484 EDE or something like that. It was (then) dark green, 100E engine, 2 spares on the tank, cycle wings on the front and I sold it to an insurance broker in the Finchley Central, N London area. The person I purchased it from telephoned phoned me a few years later asking if I still had it as he had just found out it was a developement model and of some value. Does anyone know of the whereabouts of this car. I'd love to hear what became of "Ede" as she became known.

Just got the CD of all the old newsletters. Brillient - Michael
Dear Sir, i am interested to hear more about the "crossbred bitza" I own which is a A7 frame , boyden front axle , a Ford engine and a fiberglass body totally different from special A7 and much closer to a Dellow . I'll try to assist to a UK event as permy agenda; BRgds. P
Many years ago I owned a Mk II reg no BCW 155, is this still in circulation? There were 4 Dellows who regularly competed in MCC events and others from the Cambridge area, the reg. nos. were LOL 992,MYP ???, and I cant rember the 4th. Any info would be appreciated
Hello to all my old friends in the Dellow Register. I still do not currently own a Dellow, as I have for the last few yeras concentrated on "more modern" motorsport together with my family. I still have a very special soft spot in my heart for the best looking and full of character marque that I started out with and know that (unless I don't live that long) will have to get back one day to Dellow driving. The only reason I did not continue my Register membership is that I felt really very sad that I had sold my cars, every time I had a newsletter!!!! Wishing you all the very best and looking forward to meeting you all again some time in the future. Peter & Ruth Tudor (Previously LLN791, WNU111, MVH31) PS Has Mark still got Ed Scobeys Mk11??
I own a 1956 Dellow roadster mk II. I live in Califonia USA. I would like to know where I can get parts for my car?
I am looking for one of the two built ford special with dellow parts. The car was built in 1951 by Lionel Evans. There were two cars like these built, they are not identical and it is alleged they were built from some spare body parts lying around the Radpanels (supplier of Dellow bodies) factory. Onewas owned some years ago by Jim Harvey, the other one, one year ago by Mark Bradbury ( I am sorry that I missed her). Please let me know, if somebody knows soething about one of these cars. Best regards Gerald
Andy, thank you for posting on our website, all such information is eagerly awaited. We have records of this car which was owned from new by George Konnoff until he passed away a few years ago. now it is owned by Darren Hollis who is carrying out a ground up restoration and if you look on the website, under mk2 Dellows you will see the link to chassis pics. these show EHR220 undergoing restoration. thanks again for contacting us. regards, David Haley
In the mid eighties in Port Macquarie Nsw Aust there was an older guy , a German i think & he drove a Dellow , All that I can offer in relation to this car is that he was friends with Mr Ian Turnham ,who operated an auto electrical workshop in Gorden st. I am sure that it would survive now as the Turnhams were car enthusiasts. I hope this is of help to yuo
Jeff, I am sorry you seem to have been let down over what must be very valuable family mementos. I will do all I can to track down these photographs and get them returned to you. David Haley
My father was Doc Hardman and with my mother as navigator was outright winner of the Daily Express rally 1952 in a supercharged Dellow. Registration KOP 263. My mother who will be 99 on Sept 13 2005. gave the photagrapic records of many trials /rallies etc to my youngest sister, a Mrs Kay George. We live near Lands End and several years ago members of the Dellow club, in search of history, visted my sister and made off with the photos with a promise to return them. We are still waiting. May be this is another mistery. Any help in getting themreturned would be appreciated. Regards and best wishes to all. Jeff Hardman. Name: HAROLD STEPP Email: www.msphgs@yahoo.com Comments: I have visited your Dellow page several times. I am a British car lover from way back...about 1958. Have owned several, mostly common types.Mk I Sprites, MGS, MINI COOPER, etc. I like the smaller basic cars like the Dellow, Austin 7. I would love to have a Dellow. Perhaps some day....I have never seen one in the US. THANKS Harold
Thanks for the splendid website. As a 1950/60's member of the motor trade dealing in Vintage cars there were many fond memories on your pages. Thanks. Your members may care to share those days at www.rick-ford.co.uk. Best of luck with the Register.

David, I can only guess my email was not working. The computer has been 'reborn' XP and broadband powered. The last breifing email /snail mail I received was November 2004! Please tell me what I need to do to get back on the 'list'. Regards Wayne Lodge
where does the name dellow come from and what does it mean
nice site
Obviously a very random bit of info for you all, but I just thought it might be of interest to your register that I am the current owner of the HRG 1500 that was once owned and trialled extensivly by Ken Delingpole. The car is pictured in "More Wheelspin" with Ken at the wheel. It has been in my family since 1955 having been built in 1947.
I have owned a Dellow MK2 since 1970. It was one of six imported in the U.S. in January 1955. It is a Left Hand Drive. Is anyone aware of any others in the U.S.? Mine is presently garage kept but still in running condition. Mostly original except grille, paint and reupholstered. Actually have a signed letter from Mr. Ron Lowe to me in January 1978 and some original books.
Can I clarify the following to clear up the record? "Hi David just been reading the 'lighweight' section. I think this car had an Elva i.o.e. not a Willment. Tony won tripple consecutive hill climbing championships not double and over three decades." Jim Harvey. Tony Marsh was Hillclimb Champion in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Then again in ......... 1965, 1966 and 1967. So, two triples but NOT over three decades.
Are there any New Dellow Mk 1 Chassis being made inthe U.K ? THANKS TERRY BALAAM ( CANADA)
Can anybody assist? I can access this guestbook but not the main page of www.dellowregister.co.uk - I am trying to access details of marks and models of Dellows. Thanks for any guidance you can give. 27.12.04
I have accessed The Dellow Register website for the first time today and very much enjoyed the information posted. The main reason for my visit is because I have a friend, Noel, who is looking for a Dellow he owned some years ago. The registration number of the vehicle is LOB 873. I unfortunately did not take any further details. Can anyone help with his enquiry? Many thanks, Emma.
Hello David, Just been reading you information on the RP3 and UP3 on the Register Site. Whilst your surmise about the 'new' tubing might be right when production was well underway. The chances of being able to buy new steel stock in the forties was very limited unless your product was for export. The 'Evans Special' was certainly made up from bits and pieces of conduit, some still had threaded ends on it! I do appreciate that these could have been replaced with odds and ends but the places where these were evident on this car were not in places where replacements are usually found. This may also have been a one off experiment on his own car and not necessarily be found on production Dellows. Best wishes keep up the good work J.
I've just located a London supplier for expanded sheet mesh for a MK1 grille. I reckon that the original material measures 10.5 "diamonds" to every12". A very close replacement sheet (60cm x 60cm) in either steel or stainless steel can be obtained from: Gower Grilles Limited 30-34 Rheidol Mews, Rheidol Terrace, London N1 8NU Telephone 0207 226 3644 Minimum order charge £25 so multiple orders would be sensible. Ask for Carl. Regards to all, Richard Shirley
Good Morning: I have been searching the net for information about a magazine called "The Cyclecar" published by Temple Press, London. I have a very large bound volume of The Cyclecar- which includes the first magazine published. It is full of hundreds of pictures, articles, diagrams, funny cartoons etc. (684 pages) It was edited by Edmund Dangerfield. Again, this is a bound version of Nov.27, 1912-May 21, 1913 Cyclecar Magazines. The advertisments are not included in this volume, as it states that in the first volume there were 85 pages of ads. I'm assuming this was bound for reference -although it is not a library book. I will be selling it, but am hesitant until I can find out more information. I am in the US-can anyone help please?? Thank you very much! Cynthia Baker cynthiabaker6@charter.net-(e-mail)
Hellow Dellow Register -I've just tripped over your excellent site.. Was surprised not to see a mention in the history re (Doctor) Charles Hardman's MK 1 (I think) KOP263, maroon, 3 engine options (standard for Charles to do his doctor's rounds in Blackpool) a 'tuned' motor for local events, and a Shorrock C75B effort for competition events. He did almost everything with this car, often with wife Molly alongside. He got into the top 10 (7th??) of an RAC Trials Championship final, but his best effort was to win the National Daily Express Rally outright - not sure which year (1950-51?), predecessor to RAC Rally GB.. I used to navigate with Molly driving in local Sunday rallies around west Lancs. One of my school chums was (son) Richard Hardman, recently seen on TV as an oil exploration geologist with Amerada Hess. Best wishes to your register, Len Gibson (near Bath).

Can any of you dellow owners help me out?. I am badly in need of a set of hubcaps to fit my LMB 15" wheels. I appreciate that these items are pretty obscure but no other hubcaps will fit! My car is a unique aluminium bodied twoseater Ford 1172 special with all sorts of AquaplaneBallamy equipment fitted, but I am stuck for the hubcaps! Help please!!! Many thanks Tony Russell Phone 01737 221578 or e-mail at fat_rabbit54@hotmail.com
I have an acquaintance who would like to give a Dellow related gift to one of his friends who was a Dellow owner some years ago. Is it possible to get anywhere Dellow badges (replicas are OK) or, better still, models or toys of the Dellow markes over the years? He is particularly interested in later models. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi David just been reading the 'lighweight' section. I think this car had an Elva i.o.e. not a Willment. Tony won tripple consecutive hill climbing championships not double and over three decades.
Me again. Just looked at Dellows in action section. Some teriffic photos. I assume the 'Mk.11' reference re. Nick Woolletts car refers to Mk.11 Cortina. I think originally it was a Mk.1 before it became a Cortina. Byeee. Jim
Hi David just been enjoying the Register web-site with the new PC. Very impressed with both. I think you have done a brilliant job with the site, well done. You must have spent a LOT of time on this one. It's a credit to you.
